Statement Regarding the Dunn Files:
It is not Justice for Waldport's intent to politically weaponize the Dunn Files, and we regret that recent public statements have made a response necessary.
It has come to our attention that Waldport City Manager Dann Cutter made a public written statement asserting that he had information provided by Greg and Sheila Dunn, as well as a California District Attorney, that he believed contradicted information contained in the Dunn Files. Mr. Cutter also publicly alleged that, based on what the Dunns have told and shown him, that one of the individuals who provided a sworn statement is confused and has mistaken another individual for Greg Dunn, and that "these girls fabricated, confused, and enhanced their stories." In addition, another accusation made by Mr. Cutter is that the Dunn Files consist of carefully selected public records assembled to present a particular narrative rather than the complete story.
We take such statements seriously. The private investigator, together with a volunteer, carefully listened as individuals shared their stories in their own words and documented their accounts with accuracy and care. Individuals were not led or coached during this process. Where possible, investigators compared the information provided with independently available witnesses and other available information regarding people, locations, and relevant timeframes. That review process did not reveal information that caused us to conclude any account should be excluded from the Dunn Files on the basis that it appeared to be fabricated, imagined or the result of confusion.
Because Mr. Cutter's statements call into question the integrity of our work, we believe it is important to explain how the Dunn Files were assembled.
The Dunn Files contain the complete collection of public records that a private investigation firm, which volunteered its efforts, was able to lawfully obtain through legal channels. In addition to those public records, the Dunn Files include two written statements that Greg Dunn and members of his family made publicly on Facebook, as well as statements made by the private investigator, so readers can review those materials alongside the public records. These materials include historical and more recent victim statements, official records from the Bakersfield Police Department, the California Department of Health and Human Services, the California Department of Social Services, and Kern County Child Protective Services.

We intentionally included the two written statements that Greg Dunn and members of his family made publicly on Facebook so readers could consider their perspective alongside the other materials contained in the Dunn Files.

Our decision was to publish the entire collection of public records we received—including documents that were not directly related to the allegations involving Greg and Sheila Dunn—because we did not want anyone to believe records had been selectively omitted. The only documents we chose not to publish were a small number of exact duplicate records that would have required readers to review the same material multiple times.
Nearly all of the redactions visible throughout the records were made by the government agencies that released them. Justice for Waldport made only a very small number of additional redactions—well under one percent of the total—in an effort to protect private individuals from potential retaliation.
We also understand that Garret Jaros, a reporter for the Lincoln Chronicle, provided his business card to an intermediary with a request that it be forwarded to one of the individuals identified in the Dunn Files. After speaking with Mr. Jaros by telephone, the individual reports that Mr. Jaros explained Greg Dunn had contacted him because he wanted to publicly tell his side of the story. As readers of the Dunn Files know, Mr. Dunn's perspective has already been included through publication of the two written statements made publicly by Greg Dunn and members of his family. The individual further reports that Mr. Jaros stated that, if he were going to publish Mr. Dunn's perspective, he also wanted to provide those identified in the Dunn Files an opportunity to share their perspectives.
We also understand that Mr. Jaros contacted Tony Thimakis, the chief petitioner of the recall committees, seeking copies of documents related to the Dunn Files. To be clear, Mr. Thimakis has no access to the Dunn Files beyond what is already publicly available and has not participated in the investigation, the collection of records, interviews, or related communications concerning the Dunn Files.
If additional public records become lawfully available, we will review them carefully and, when appropriate, make them available. Likewise, if additional individuals with relevant firsthand information pertaining to the past, recent past, or current conduct of Sheila and Greg Dunn contact us, we will evaluate any information they provide using the same careful process described above before determining whether any update to the Dunn Files is appropriate.
If you or someone you know has information you believe may be relevant, or if you are seeking support, information, or resources, you are welcome to contact Justice for Waldport confidentially. Nothing will ever be published in the Dunn Files without the individual's express knowledge, desire, and permission.
We believe the public is best served when information is presented as completely and accurately as possible, allowing readers to reach their own conclusions.
Final Note:
We recognize that this discussion is taking place while efforts are underway to recall members of the Waldport City Council, including Council President Greg Dunn. That timing is unfortunate. It has caused some to question our motives and has led others to promote the narrative that Justice for Waldport is politically motivated.
The Dunn Files were not created to influence an election or political campaign. They were created to preserve and present information obtained through lawful means so members of the public could review the available materials for themselves. Our purpose has always been transparency, not advocacy for or against any individual. Above all, our motivation has been concern for the safety and well-being of children, families, and members of the community.

Whether a reader ultimately agrees with our decision to publish the Dunn Files or not, we believe transparency is better served by making information available than by withholding it.
